The trail winds inside the Langtang National Park, where you will come across diverse flora and fauna, rivers, streams, and lovely waterfalls. The highest point of the trek is Nagthali Danda (3,300 m/10,826 ft), which comes between Tatopani and Thuman villages. As the name of the package says, the Tamang Heritage Trek is designed to let you learn and experience the culture, traditions, and lifestyle of the Tamang community. It is an indigenous community who are believed to have migrated from Tibet and this trek is also one of the famous community treks in Nepal. The villagers are very welcoming and kind. You will have a great time interacting with them. This trek route was officially opened in 2004, and since then, hundreds of travellers from around the world have experienced its beauty and adventure. Another great thing about the Tamang Heritage Trek in Nepal is that you'll be contributing directly towards the betterment of the communities residing along the route. The main purpose of designing this trekking route is to uplift the communities in the area. 

The Tamang Heritage Trek offers wonderful views of numerous Himalayan mountains like Manaslu (8,163 m/26,781 ft), Annapurna (8,091 m/26,545 ft), Ganesh Himal (7,422 m/24,350 ft), Langtang Lirung (7,234 m/23,734 ft), Dorje Lhakpa (6,966 m/22,854 ft), Shishapangma (8,027 m/26,335 ft), Mt. Kang Guru (6,981 m/22,904 ft), Langshisa (6,427 m/21,086 ft), etc. If you have extra time, we highly recommend combining the Tamang Heritage Trail with the Langtang Valley. 

Elevation Gain

The Langtang Tamang Heritage Trail begins with a 6-7 hours scenic ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,467 m/4,811 ft). From here, the trail ascends via the lush forests to Rongga Bhanjyang and then descends for an hour to Goljung. The trail then continues to Gatlang (2,238 m/7,343 ft) for the night stay. The next day, you will begin trekking towards Tatopani village (2,607 m/8,553 ft). The trail ascends through forests of rhododendrons, pine, oak, fir, etc. There are natural hot springs in Tatopani that you can enjoy by paying a few extra bucks. Further, the trail goes to Thuman (2,338 m/7,669 ft) via Nagthali Danda at 3,300 meters (10,826 ft) and Brimdang village (2,229 m/7,313 ft). Briddim is the last village where you will spend the night before trekking back to Syabrubesi. While trekking, you will cross various suspension bridges and trek past cascading waterfalls and ancient stupas.

Trek difficulty and Altitude Sickness

The Tamang Heritage Trail is a moderate trek. This trek is perfect for beginners and also offers a great venture for experienced trekkers. The trail has many ascents and descents that will keep the essence of adventure. You will also come across a handful of steep sections and landslide areas. Every day involves 5 to 6 hours of walking, so you have to be fit to do this trek. Likewise, the risk of altitude sickness during the Tamang Heritage Trek 9 days is very low. Moreover, our itinerary has a steady rise in elevation that will let you acclimatize as you trek. Our mountain guides will also make sure you are doing well while trekking and help you with every discomfort. As we carry a first aid box during the trek, you do not have to worry about any basic injuries if happens.

Our representative will receive you from the international airport and escort you to the hotel. You will be free for a few hours as per your arrival day. In the late afternoon, we will introduce you to the trek guide and brief you about the trail.

After an early morning breakfast, we will leave our hotel and begin driving to Syabrubesi. It is the starting point of our trek in the Langtang Region. The drive offers beautiful scenery of villages, hills, and mountains. We will be following a winding road along verdant hills and rushing rivers. On the way, we will witness stunning views of the Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Annapurna Ranges.

Today is our first day of trekking. Leaving Syabrubesi, we will follow a steep uphill route to Rongga Bhanjyang. The trail goes through lush forests. From the top of the ridge, the views are fantastic. The trail then descends for an hour to Goljung, where we will have our lunch. From here, we trek for another three hours to reach Gatlang.

The trail from Gatlang ascends for a couple of hours to Chilime. We will take a short break at Chilime and continue trekking, crossing a suspension bridge. The trail then ascends to Gonggang village, where we will take a lunch break. From here, we will keep trekking through lush forests to Tatopani. Tatopani is famous for its natural hot springs. After settling in the guest house, we will go for a dip in the hot springs.

From Tatopani, we trek to Nagthali Danda at 3,165 m via Brimdang Village. It is a high grassland with amazing views of the snow-capped mountains. The trail then continues to Thuman(2,340 m), a beautiful Tamang Village with friendly villagers. Here, you will get a chance to participate in a traditional dance with the villagers.

We will trek on a flat section for a bit and descend to Timure. From here, we will be following an old trade route to Tibet that leads to Briddim. It is another beautiful Tamang Village. The trail goes through dense forests and crosses streams and rivers. The views of the mountains are excellent along the way. While staying in Briddim, you will learn a lot about Tamangs and their culture & daily lifestyle.

Today is your last day of the trek. We will trek back to Syabrubesi, from where we had begun the trek. The trail descends via small villages and forests of pine, oak, rhododendron, etc. Upon reaching Syabrubesi, we will settle in the guesthouse and spend the remaining day enjoying our last few hours in the remote mountains.

Early in the morning, we will leave Syabrubesi and drive back to Kathmandu. The drive will be scenic like before. Upon reaching Kathmandu, the team will drop you at the hotel. The remaining day is leisure. You can rest and shop. We will meet you in the late evening for a farewell dinner in a designated restaurant.

    The Tamang Heritage Trek ends here. Our airport team will pick you up from the hotel as per your flight departure time and drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

    The Best Time 

    The best time to do the Tamang Heritage Trek is during March, April, and May. This is the spring season, and the trail is full of thousands of flowers and numerous vegetation. The climate is moderate in the spring season, which is perfect for trekking, and the views are clear. Likewise,October and  November (autumn) are other best months to do Tamang Heritage Trekking. This season also has a moderate climate, fantastic views, and a clear sky. Another big pro of trekking in autumn is the festivity. Nepalese celebrate their biggest festivals in autumn, and you may get a chance to be part of some of them.

    Accommodation and Meals

    The accommodation during the Tamang Heritage Trek for 9 days in a guesthouse. So, you will basically get to live in the houses of villagers along the trail. The rooms are available on both a shared and single basis. However, Our Tamang Heritage Trek cost covers twin shared rooms. To get a single room, you have to inform us during booking. The rooms in the guesthouses will be small and decent to spend the night. You will get clean bedding and a shared washroom mostly. Similarly, the meals are given by the guesthouses. The menu is simple yet delicious. Dal bhat, momo, thukpa, Tibetan bread, noodles, pasta, sandwiches, porridge, soups, mashed potatoes, etc. are some common dishes.

    Preparation and Packing

    Tamang Heritage Trail is not that demanding. You can join this trek with a few weeks of regular walks and basic exercise. Your health and stamina have to be good. You can do basic exercises that will help you build your endurance, core strength, and stamina. Activities like running, cycling, swimming, and jogging are also recommended. Likewise, for a successful trek, you also have to be well-packed. Our team will provide you with a comprehensive packing list for the Tamang Heritage Trek, however, do note that you also have to carry essentials like toilet paper, a torch, hand soap, etc. You can rent and buy everything for your trekking expedition in Thamel, Kathmandu, so no need to carry at least heavy trekking gear from your home.
