Chandragiri–Champadevi Hiking is one of the best one-day hiking experiences from Kathmandu, offering a wonderful escape from the city’s busy streets and traffic. The hike combines beautiful forest trails, cultural and religious heritage, panoramic Himalayan views, and stunning scenery of Kathmandu Valley in a single day. Our journey begins with a short drive to the Chandragiri Cable Car lower station. We then take a scenic cable car ride above the lush green hills, enjoying spectacular views of the Kathmandu Valley and, on a clear day, the Himalayan range. After reaching Chandragiri Hills, we begin our peaceful forest walk through beautiful woodland trails.

After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, we reach Chapdanda, a pleasant place to take a break, relax, and enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. After lunch, we continue our scenic hike for around two hours toward Bhasmasur Hill, a beautiful viewpoint offering impressive views of the surrounding hills, Kathmandu Valley, and snow-capped Himalayan peaks. From Bhasmasur Hill, we gradually descend toward the sacred Champadevi Temple, an important religious site surrounded by peaceful forests and magnificent mountain scenery. The hike provides a rewarding combination of nature, culture, spirituality, and adventure, making Chandragiri–Champadevi an ideal day hike for travelers looking to experience the beauty of Kathmandu beyond its historic city center.

Why We Recommend

For travelers visiting Nepal mainly for a city tour, we always recommend adding a short day hike near Kathmandu. It is a wonderful way to take a break from the busy city, enjoy fresh mountain air, and experience Nepal’s natural beauty without committing to a multi-day trek. Among the best options, the Chandragiri–Champadevi Hike stands out as a refreshing and scenic experience. The trail takes you from one end to another through peaceful, dense forests, with beautiful views of Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding Himalayan ranges along the way. The combination of forest trails, mountain scenery, fresh air, and quiet natural surroundings creates a completely different atmosphere from the city. It is also a popular hiking route among local people, especially young Nepalis who often enjoy the trail during weekends and holidays. Meeting local hikers along the way adds a lively and authentic feel to the journey. The welcoming atmosphere, beautiful trails, and changing scenery make this hike a refreshing escape and one of the best ways to experience nature close to Kathmandu.
