What You’ll Do
  • Enjoy a refreshing day hike through nature, escaping the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.
  • Admire bird’s-eye views of the Kathmandu Valley from the hilltop.
  • Enjoy panoramic Himalayan views, including Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Jugal, Dorje Lakpa, and the Langtang range on clear days.
  • Immerse yourself in the melodious sounds of birds and the peaceful forest environment along the trail.

Jamacho Hill is one of the shortest and most rewarding hiking destinations from Kathmandu, offering a peaceful escape into the lush forests of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. The trail leads you away from the bustling Kathmandu Valley into a peaceful forest filled with birdsong, fresh mountain air, diverse wildlife, and beautiful views of the surrounding hills and Himalayan landscapes. Situated at approximately 2,130 meters above sea level, Jamacho Hill is home to a peaceful Buddhist shrine, stupa, and small monastery decorated with colorful prayer flags. A watchtower at the summit provides spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley, surrounding green hills, and, on clear days, the snow-capped Himalayan range.

The adventure begins with a short private drive from Kathmandu to Phulbari Gate near Balaju Bypass, the entrance to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. After entering the forest, follow a scenic uphill trail through peaceful woodland, reaching Jamacho Peak in approximately 2–3 hours. Once at the top, take time to relax, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, capture photographs, and admire the picturesque landscapes and Himalayan views. After enjoying the summit, descend along the same trail, reaching the park entrance in around 2 hours. Your private vehicle will then be waiting to transfer you comfortably back to your hotel in Kathmandu. The entire experience generally takes around 6–7 hours, making Jamacho Hill an excellent choice for travelers with limited time in Kathmandu who want to experience nature, hiking, spirituality, and mountain scenery in a single day.
