Today we enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the Himalayas, including the Annapurnas, Hiunchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh and Langtang. We follow a ridge for most of the day and glimpse the first of the holy lakes. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosaikunda Basin – the three most important ones are Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda and Gosaikunda. According to legend, Gosaikunda was created by Lord Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after swallowing poison that threatened to destroy the world. The lake, Gosaikunda (4380m), is of particular religious and cultural significance for the Nepalese and is one of Nepal’s most sought-after pilgrimage sites. Mountains surround the lake on almost all sides, and it has a significant ensemble of nine other lakes to accompany it. During Janai Purnima in August, hundreds of Hindu pilgrims visit the lake for a holy bath every year. The large rock at the centre of the lake is said to be the remains of a Shiva shrine. Overnight in Gosaikunda.

The trail is rough, crosses moraines, and is well marked with cairns. We pass through three more small lakes before reaching the pass. We climb a small hill and enjoy excellent views of the area. Our trail passes through Surya Kunda before reaching Ghopte. Overnight in Ghopte.

A pleasant hike takes us steadily downhill and across a series of stream crossings, with rhododendrons and pine forests enveloping us as we make our way through the moist temperate forests of the lower valley to the village of Kutumsang.

    Useful Info

    Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Difficulty

The Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is rated as a moderate to moderately challenging adventure, suitable for trekkers with good health and basic hiking experience. The trail includes steady climbs, long walking days of around 5–7 hours, and high-altitude sections, with the Laurebina La Pass (4,610m) being the most demanding part of the journey. Altitude can make the trek feel tougher, so proper acclimatization and a comfortable pace are important. The route varies from forested paths to rocky, alpine terrain, and weather conditions near Gosaikunda can sometimes add difficulty. Overall, with proper preparation and a positive mindset, this trek is very achievable for motivated beginners and rewarding for experienced trekkers alike.

    Best Season

The best times to go are either in spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November). In spring, the weather is pleasant, and the hills burst with colourful rhododendron flowers, making the trek a vibrant and beautiful experience. Spring (March to May): This is one of the most popular times to trek in the Langtang region. During spring, the weather is generally stable, and the temperatures are moderate. The rhododendron forests along the trail come to life with vibrant blooms, adding a colourful touch to your trek. The views of the Himalayan peaks are often clearer during this season. Autumn (October to November): Another excellent time for the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is the autumn season. The weather is generally dry and stable, with clear skies and excellent visibility. The temperatures are also comfortable for trekking, making it a popular choice among trekkers. This season offers some of the best panoramic mountain views.

    Accommodation & Meals

During the Langtang Gosaikunda Valley Trek, we arrange comfortable guesthouse accommodations. Since the Langtang region is remote and less developed compared to routes like the Annapurna Base Camp or Everest Base Camp Trek, facilities are simple but welcoming. Guesthouses usually offer basic rooms with clean beds, blankets, and pillows, while washrooms are generally shared. The dining halls serve as warm communal spaces, often heated with a central stove where trekkers gather to relax in the evenings. Because individual rooms are not heated, we highly recommend bringing a good-quality sleeping bag to stay warm at night. Meals are provided in the same lodge where you stay overnight—dinner and breakfast—while lunch is taken at one of the teahouses along the trail. The menu typically includes Nepali and Tibetan dishes, with limited Western options such as pasta or sandwiches. Shops along the route sell snacks and drinks, though prices increase with altitude due to transportation challenges.

Internet, Charging, & ATM On The Trail

To stay connected during the trek, we assist you in purchasing a Nepali SIM card with mobile data, which is more reliable than depending on WiFi. While internet access in Kathmandu is widely available in hotels, cafés, and restaurants, the Langtang region has limited connectivity. There are several blackout zones where neither phone signals nor mobile data work. Charging facilities are generally not available inside guest rooms. Most teahouses offer charging points near the reception area, sometimes for a small fee, so carrying a power bank is highly recommended. Since ATMs are only available in Kathmandu and not along the trekking route, make sure to withdraw enough Nepalese Rupees (NPR) before starting your journey. Local teahouses and shops do not accept cards or foreign currency, making cash the only reliable payment method. Having sufficient NPR on hand ensures a smooth and worry-free trekking experience throughout your adventure.

    Travel Insurance

For the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek, the trekking company takes full responsibility for arranging insurance for guides and porters, ensuring their safety throughout the journey. While there is no mandatory rule requiring clients to have travel insurance in Nepal, we strongly recommend it. The trek involves high-altitude terrain where unexpected situations—such as altitude-related issues or medical emergencies—can occur. In such cases, insurance becomes essential to cover the high cost of helicopter evacuation and medical treatment. Before your trip, we kindly request you to consult with your travel agency and make sure your insurance policy includes appropriate altitude coverage and emergency air evacuation. This ensures a safe, stress-free, and well-protected trekking experience.
