    Useful Info

    Annapurna Base Camp Trek Difficulty

The difficulty level of the Annapurna base camp is moderate. It is an excellent trekking option for beginner trekkers,s given the incredible pace of the trail and relatively low elevation gain. The trail goes through uneven forested paths and hillsides. You walk 6 to 7 hours a day. Therefore, the trekkers have to be fit and in good health. The services in the mountains are minimum, and you have to make a lot of sacrifices during the journey.

There are a handful of steep, rocky sections that demand more strength. Likewise, the trail also passes by landslide-prone areas. Your guide will help you navigate through any challenging sections like these. The trekkers have to be well prepared and packed for the trek.

The preparation for Annapurna base camp trekking involves building stamina, strength, and endurance. Hiking, cycling, swimming, walking, and jogging are some of the activities you can do regularly before the trek begins. Also, make sure you are well-packed and ready to face any change in weather in the mountains.

    Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness risk is there during the Annapurna base camp trekking, but it's relatively very low than any other trek. The Annapurna base camp trek route does not see any drastic change in the elevation, and you will gain a balanced rise daily, ensuring your safety from altitude sickness. Likewise, the team leader will keep checking your health.

If you see any of the below symptoms, let your guide know and follow his instructions:

    • Vomiting
    • Headache
    • Difficulty in breathing
    • Insomnia
    • Nausea

    Best Season

As the weather in the diverse climatic zone of the Annapurna region is highly unpredictable, and there are always some ups and downs in the season throughout the year, it is advisable to pick the right season before booking your trip. This factor alone is essential and responsible for the success of your trek.

The clear skies & stable temperature with maximum visibility and no rain make trekking in spring & autumn fantastic. All these factors contribute to leading a trekker on an easy trek. As for the frigid winters, temperatures in the higher elevation are sometimes unbearable.

Monsoon makes things even more complicated by increasing the possibility of wet and muddy trails that can cause landslides. The trail is also full of leeches and mosquitoes in the rainy season. It would be wise to think this through and then decide the best time.

Accommodation & Meals During The Trek

The Annapurna base camp trek is one of Nepal's most well-established routes, with plenty of friendly lodges to welcome you. During your trek, you'll be staying in a tea house with twin-sharing rooms equipped with twin beds, a mattress, a pillow, and a blanket.

These lodgings, which are run by locals, are modest yet handy. You can spend the night there comfortably. The best part is that some tea houses have an attached bathroom, so you don't have to walk outside your room to use the restroom. But at most locations along this route, the toilet and washing facilities are outside your room.

Most of the tea houses in this region serve a broad selection of traditional Nepali cuisine and Western meals, which are healthy and hygienic for you. This includes classic Nepali local dishes such as dal bhat, momos, bread, and various other options. You can also easily access Western food since it is a developed trek, including pizza, noodles, spaghetti, burgers, and stews. Plus, if you want to carry extra snacks, feel free to do that, as you may need them.

Internet, Charging, & ATM On The Trail

The internet facility along the ABC trekking route is not reliable. Therefore, we advise trekkers to carry a Nepali sim and use data for the internet. It's a much more reliable and economical option. Likewise, charging is available in the lodges, but you may have to pay a few extra bucks.

There is no ATM on the Annapurna base camp trekking route, so withdraw ample cash in Kathmandu or Pokhara. You will need additional money for personal expenses like these, and the locals do not accept cards or other currency.

    Travel Insurance

We recommend getting travel insurance that covers emergency air evacuation in the mountains if needed. Well, the chance of using travel insurance is very low, but it's for the safety of the trekkers. Because Annapurna region does not have good health care facilities or transportation means, the only resource left with us in case of a medical emergency is to airlift you to a hospital in Pokhara or Kathmandu.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Without A Guide

Annapurna base camp trek without a guide is also feasible if you can independently navigate the Himalayan trail. The trail is exceptionally bustling with trekkers from around the world in the peak trekking seasons, so you'll not feel alone and ask for help if needed. On the contrary, we recommend trekking with a guide because you will learn much about the region, vegetation, locals, etc., from the directory.

      Amazing hospitality

Me and my family enjoyed our trip to Nepal and we received an amazing hospitality from Mr. Upendra and his team. We have heard a lot about the goodness of people from Himalayas and even being very close to Nepal geographically I did not get the chance to visit. This time when I was visiting my family back home we decided to visit Nepal. IHN was recommended by a very close friend and we are so glad we booked our trip from them. We did Annapurna Base Camp and it was majestic. We had a great guide who knew all the great informations on locals, the geography and the importance of hydrating and resting while trekking in high altitude. It all made our trip smooth without any issues.

Thank you for your amazing service!
